Most Anticipated Games in the Regular Season
IN THE PAST
Tags: sports, game, anticipated, regular season, events, football, basketball, baseball
Whether or not coaches and players will admit it, some games are just bigger than others. And though all playoff and championship games are obviously bigger, sometimes a regular season game can have a post-season feel. These are some of the most hyped, most anticipated regular season games in sports history.
| 1. | Colts vs. Patriots - November 4, 2007 - Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning and both teams were 7-0 (first time in NFL history). Super Bowl 41-and-a-half would end up 24-20 Patriots winning, after being down 20-10 in the second half. |
| 2. | Yankees vs. Red Sox - April 11, 2005 - The first matchup following the Red Sox curse-breaking World Series win. The Red Sox receive their World Series rings at Fenway Park before they play the Yankees. All of the Yankees go to the top step of the dugout to applaud the Red Sox accomplishment, a sign of class. During the announcement of the lineups Yankee closer Mariano Rivera (who had struggled against the Red Sox) received a loud standing ovation. Rivera laughed and tipped his cap. The Red Sox won the game 8-1. |
| 3. | Ohio State vs. Michigan (football) - November 18, 2006 - Ohio State and Michigan had met 102 times, but never before this week did the stars align so that they were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the United States. |
| 4. | Lakers (Kobe Bryant) vs. Heat (Shaq O'Neal) - December 25, 2004 - Shaq is traded to the Heat and Kobe and Shaq exchanged months of negative words. Seldom has an NBA regular-season game drawn the attention of this Heat-Lakers Chistmas Day matchup. And when it was over, most agreed that Shaq-Kobe I had lived up to expectations. The Miami Heat would win 104-102 in OT. |
